What local door customers have to say...
*****
Are there any true craftsman still around today?
I am not talking about a handyman, many of whom many are quite good.
No, what I mean is the dedication to perfection of the craft and
willing to work with less than "perfect" store bought materials.
Yes, we can go to Menards and install a door. But, what if your
existing structure "aint quite right"...? Built years ago and needing
updating. Now is when you go to Michael Schuler, ask him to work his magic, sit back and be amazed.
Nice guy?-yep, Professional?-yep, Willing to take to extra time?- yep
Michael is the only person in central Illinois I could find that was willing to do what I needed.
Thank you again for your great work!

*****
First and foremost, absolutely stellar installation of our new front door. After removing the old door assembly and taking meticulous measurements, Mike diagnosed an issue with our wall framing (which explained why our old door had been leaking air so badly). This, coupled with several other constraints made this install far from typical, but Mike addressed each issue and kept us informed throughout the process. To accommodate the issue with our wall framing, Mike fabricated custom exterior trim to ensure a proper weather seal was made. Looking at the finished product, what is most remarkable to me is how unremarkable the trim looks; a considerable amount of craftsmanship (and time) was required to fit that trim to our problematic wall, but it was done so well that you’d never know it had been an issue. This attention to detail on a part of the build that will never see the light of day is what seals the deal for me; Mike will be my first call for any future carpentry work.
--- Matt Gill, Fisher, IL ***** We hired Mike for a custom project intended to soundproof our living room and couldn't be happier with the result. The doors he installed do a very good job at that. If kids are noisy in the front room, we can shut the doors, and it sounds like they're in the basement/crawlspace instead. When you're in the front room with the doors closed, all the other house noise is gone: conversation, music, phone ringing, etc. Actually, one of my boys shuts all the doors and just reads in the beautiful silence. It's made out house so much more functional and comfortable to live in. Mike was detail-oriented, meticulous, and great at communicating throughout the duration of the project. We could always get a hold of him. He always reached out to us directly when a decision had to be made. Mike also took great care to ensure the project met his exacting standards. Excellent work! --- Susan E., Urbana IL *****I have to say that there is something very particularly satisfying in the solid-sounding, one-syllable “chunk” I experience when closing a heavy interior wooden door in our home. It’s not a two-syllable sound, and there is no bounce or rattle in it. Just a solitary “chunk.” Like the sound the door on my Toyota makes. The sound of the door handle latch is buried in that “chunk” too. Just amazing. Kudos to Mike Schuler who hung that door, and fixed a few others in my house.
--- Jeff, Urbana, IL ***** We are very happy that we hired Mike Schuler. He did an exceptional job installing two doors for us. One of our doors (the garage service door) had been hung wrong and was letting in air and rain. Mike corrected the issue and now it is sealed tight letting in no air or rain. He is also very dependable. These days it's hard to find someone to actually call you back but Mike called back right away. He came on time, cleaned up and hauled away the old doors. We would definitely hire him again!! --- Jane & Keith Taylor, Champaign, IL
*****I highly recommend Mike Schuler at www.doors.expert. Our front door was at the point that my kids could not open or lock it -and it was so drafty. Mike immediately diagnosed the issue and had it fixed within 24 hours of us contacting him. Clearly, Mike has a strong knowledge of the technicalities and importance of well functioning doors, but his responsiveness, service and attention to details while working were equally impressive. I recommend him and his business with no reservation.” --- Laurel Rosch, Champaign, IL
*****As a general contractor for four decades I hired Mike Schuler many times for his woodworking abilities and especially for his expertise in door installations. You could always count on Mike to hang the door correctly the first time and not have to worry about future problems or call backs. I highly recommend Mike Schuler for any door need. --- Larry Buckley / Buckley Construction, Inc., Urbana, IL
*****When we had a break in at our house last year, our back door was damaged beyond repair. I tried calling different door companies to come out and replace it, but everyone told me it would be a week or two before they could even look at it. I called Mike Schuler and he came the next morning, helped me pick out a new door at Home Depot, and had it installed by the end of the day. We now have a much nicer and more secure door, with much better weatherproofing than our old one. If you need any kind of door work done, Mike is definitely your man! --- Knut Bauer, Urbana, IL
*****The work Mike did for us in Urbana at at our rental was very professional and looks very nice. Our tenant is very pleased with the work he did on the back door and front door. If we need any carpentry work in the near future we will contact Mike. --- Larry Sorenson, Colorado
*****Michael Schuler is a wonderful contractor who did the build out of my original yoga studio and a expansion to add another studio space. He is very easy to work with and took the stress out of two very complicated projects. He is warm, honest, prompt, detail oriented, and does impeccable beautiful work. He hung many doors for us including reclaimed industrial glass doors which all work perfectly and look great in our space. I highly recommend him and if we ever decide to expand again he is only contractor I would want to have work on the project. ---Kathryn Fitzgerald Art Director Amara Yoga & Arts, Urbana, IL
*****Mike Schuler made and installed sliding doors and folding doors for my home. He also repaired and adjusted my exterior doors. Mike is an expert and his work is excellent. I wouldn’t want to hire anyone else to work on my doors. --- John White, Urbana, IL
*****Mike Schuler has completed a number of carpentry projects for our home over the past 11 years. Those projects have included several door installations: a new sliding door from our den out to our deck, a new front entry door to our house, and both a garage door and “people” door to our garage. Obviously, the desired outcome for any door installation is “level and plumb.” Mike’s door installs are just that! --- Pat Kovar, Champaign, IL
*****I cannot speak too highly of Michael Schuler and his work. Michael's huge experience and skill enable him to be a craftsperson-artist-and-magician! What he makes is elegant and sturdy; beautiful and practical. What he crafts, lasts.
Over the years I've called on Michael again and again to make doors, cabinets, shelves, window frames, desks, tables—you name it. He's crafted a roomy table into a very small kitchen space; he's created a massive 8foot by 8foot cabinet that houses fragile computer graphics from the 1980's so that they can stand upright and protected. Much of his genius comes from his ability to listen both to what I want, and to what the space wants.
People ask me how it is that my house is so beautiful, and I reply, “Michael Schuler”. --- Susan Parenti, Urbana, IL
*****We knew Mike for many years; he installed several interior and exterior doors in our house, custom built two studio desks and much more. I worked with Mike on a kitchen renovation, which included replacement of three doors.

--- Jean S., Urbana ***** Michael Schuler is an exceptionally skilled craftsman who has the experience and creative insight to work through the most challenging carpentry problems. He has done three remarkable projects for us, each more difficult than the last. He built a shelving unit in a tight, irregular space that needed to mask an oddly-positioned, exposed pipe. For the second project, Michael expertly built a wall of shelves that fit into an existing paneled room as though they had always been there. His most recent and most impressive work, was to make an eight person, natural edge dining room table from locally sourced, book-matched, black walnut boards. Michael's attention to detail and the patient way he carefully addressed all our concerns makes him, in our estimation, a master carpenter with the mind of an inventor and the soul of an artist. We continue to marvel at the daily pleasure we find in having Michael Schuler's work grace our home. --- Ann Coddington and Robert Petersen, Champaign, IL *****We hired Mike to do a built in bookshelf in our spare room. He drew up the plans and the final result exceeded our expectations. He and Boyd worked tirelessly (and late into the night!) to get everything done. They are very meticulous and it shows in the final product. We are beyond thrilled with our bookshelves and highly recommend Mike and Boyd to anyone!
